News and Announcements

To be prepared to complete your 2024-25 FAFSA, students must have a Federal Student Aid Identifier (FSA ID) and a valid email address. Anyone else (such as a parent or spouse) who will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA must have their own FSA ID and valid email address. If the student or any others contributing information to the FAFSA do not have their FSA ID, get one now by going to Studentaid.gov and create an account (which creates an FSA ID) today.

If someone does not have a Social Security Number, they can still obtain an FSA ID; see How to Get an FSA ID for Individuals Without a Social Security Number  (Spanish version). If you are still unable to obtain an FSA ID or submit the FAFSA online, please see guidance here.

Priority filing dates

Federal financial aid information:  In prior years, we set February 1 as the priority date for submitting the FAFSA; typically, this date is used to help ensure financial aid files are complete in sufficient time to have financial aid offers determined and notifications delivered ahead of the start of the Fall semester. We also used this priority date to offer Federal Work-Study funds. However, we recognize the delayed opening of the 2024-25 FAFSA this year also likely delayed many students and families being able to complete and submit the FAFSA timely.

For the 2024-25 school year, we are moving our priority application date to August 1, 2024. Please note we will continue to review all FAFSAs we receive in the date order of when they were submitted (the federal processor tells us this date when they send the processed FAFSA to us). It is important to keep in mind two points to help improve your chances for receiving a comprehensive financial aid package in advance of the start of the Fall 2024 semester—(1) the sooner you submit your FAFSA, the better; and (2) monitor your Umail and the Financial Aid tile in CIS for any requests for additional documentation or information needed to complete your financial aid file.

We were able to begin releasing comprehensive financial aid offers in late April and we continue to notify students of their offers. Generally, we are able to send offers when we have (a) a processed FAFSA that is complete and free of errors or conflicting information, and (b) all additional required documentation that resolves any missing, incomplete, or conflicting information.

For Utah Scholarship information (both new students interested in being considered for eligibility, as well as continuing students who are recipients): Complete and submit the 2024-25 FAFSA by August 1, 2024 to ensure consideration for eligibility for the For Utah scholarship for the 2024-25 school year. Be sure to closely monitor your CIS and Umail account for follow-up requests or requirements to complete your University of Utah financial aid file before the first day of classes for the Fall 2024 semester (i.e., August 19, 2024).

Incoming freshmen merit scholarship notifications will be sent to an eligible recipient's email beginning February 1, 2025. Please refer to the full list of scholarships here.

If you are a student or parent inquiring about the status of an award, then please ensure that a FERPA PIN has been set up. More information about how to complete that process can be found here. Please note that we will not be able to share information without the FERPA PIN available and you must be the student or a designated person for our office to be able to share information about the status of an award.

For incoming freshmen students admitted for the Fall 2025 semester, eligible recipients of the WUE Tuition Discount will be notified by the Office of Admissions.  If there are questions about a WUE Tuition Discount recipient's status, then please reach out to the Office of Admissions at admissions@utah.edu or (801) 581-8761.

For Utah Scholarship information: Complete and submit the 2025-26 FAFSA by March 1, 2025, to ensure consideration of eligibility for the For Utah scholarship for the 2025-26 school year. Be sure to closely monitor your CIS and Umail account for follow-up requests or requirements to complete your University of Utah financial aid file before the first day of classes for the Fall 2025 semester (i.e., August 18, 2025).

All existing ISA contract holders have been sent communications regarding this status as of June 1, 2023.  Please see the public announcement that the program has ended. If you are a former ISA recipient at the U and have questions, or if you need information on additional financial aid options, please contact the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
