Admitted Student Checklist

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Utah!

This guide will help you with the next steps before you begin your classes.

Create your CIS account at using your student ID and password that was provided in your admissions letter. 

 Activate your university e-mail account (UMail). at All university communications are sent to your UMail account, so be sure to check it often and submit requested information in a timely manner.

 Complete the FAFSA at if you are interested in need based scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study.

 Check your financial aid status status in if you completed the FAFSA. Follow up on any requests from the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid in a timely manner. Make sure your financial aid file is complete by the Feb. 1 Financial Aid Priority Date for consideration for all available aid options, including need based scholarships, grants, and work study.

 Apply for additonal funding, if needed. 

 Accept financial aid through the Financial Aid Tile and the Financial Aid Offer Letter link in  

 Confirm your intent to enroll and pay the enrollment deposit with the Office of Admissions.  Merit scholarships are automatically accepted when you commit to the University of Utah. 

 If you are planning on deferring admissions, please visit the Office of Admissions website.  If your deferment is approved, our office will hold your merit scholarship. If you have a department scholarship, please check with that department for deferment information. 

 If you received a scholarship outside of the University of Utah, please have the donor send the check to our office and complete the External Scholarship FormMail scholarship checks to: University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid,  201 South 1460 East Rm 135 Salt Lake City, UT 84112.

 Register for New Student Orientation at Orientation is mandatory for new students. Registration spots fill up quickly, so sign up ASAP! 

Pay any outstanding balance on tuition, by the deadline. Fall 2022 tuition deadline is Friday, September 2.

Scholarships opportunities are available through University of Utah departments. Departments have a separate application process than the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
