Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)
*For incoming freshmen students admitted for the Fall 2025 semester, eligible recipients of the WUE Tuition Discount were notified of their status as part of their admit notification from the Office of Admissions. The WUE Tuition Discount reduces the amount of standard tuition for eligible non-resident students. With the WUE Tuition Discount, the recipient pays no more than 150% of the standard resident tuition rate. Eligible states/provinces include: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau, South Dakota, Washington, or Wyoming.

- Recipients cannot pursue Utah residency status while receiving the WUE Tuition Discount
- Recipients will pay no more than 150% of the standard resident tuition rate (excludes tuition differential charges and all fees), up to 18 hours per semester
- Recipients generally cannot receive any other university merit award in combination with the WUE Tuition Discount
- The WUE Tuition Discount cannot be declined or cancelled for a term that has ended unless stated the student is determined to have been ineligible.
- The WUE Tuition Discount is applicable to any undergraduate degree program (major) except online degree programs.
Effective for the 2025-2026 academic year, incoming freshmen students wanting to be considered for the WUE Tuition Discount must:
- Be a permanent resident of a WUE state or territory
- Have a completed admissions application/file at the U by December 1, 2024
- Have an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher at the time of application to the University of Utah
The WUE Tuition Discount for incoming freshmen students is renewable for up to 8 semesters (i.e., 4 years), or degree completion, whichever is earlier, provided recipients maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 at the U and successfully complete at least 24 credit hours each academic year (fall and spring semesters) unless on an approved leave of absence.
Effective for the 2025-2026 academic year, to be eligible for the WUE Tuition Discount, transfer students must:
- Be a permanent resident of a WUE state or territory
- Have a completed admissions application/file at the U by February 1, 2025
- Have an earned associate's degree, or at least 30 earned credit hours, without an earned bachelor's degree at the time of application to the University of Utah
- Have an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher at the time of application to the University of Utah
- Submit your Common Application or Transfer Application
- Confirm with your high school counselor or Registrar's Office that they have sent your transcripts to the Office of Admissions
- Confirm with the Office of Admissions that your transcript was received
- Follow up with any request or additional information you received from the Office of Admissions
