News and Announcements

To be prepared to complete your 2024-25 FAFSA, students must have a Federal Student Aid Identifier (FSA ID) and a valid email address. Anyone else (such as a parent or spouse) who will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA must have their own FSA ID and valid email address. If the student or any others contributing information to the FAFSA do not have their FSA ID, get one now by going to Studentaid.gov and create an account (which creates an FSA ID) today.

If someone does not have a Social Security Number, they can still obtain an FSA ID; see How to Get an FSA ID for Individuals Without a Social Security Number  (Spanish version). If you are still unable to obtain an FSA ID or submit the FAFSA online, please see guidance here.

Priority filing dates

Federal financial aid information: Complete the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the February 1 priority date to maximize your federal financial aid options, particularly Federal Work-Study and Federal SEOG funding.

We recognize the delayed opening of the FAFSA this year may have also delayed students and families being able to complete and submit the FAFSA timely. We will continue to review all FAFSAs processed and sent to our institution. We will prioritize FAFSAs processed by February 1, but will monitor FAFSAs processed after February 1 in date order. Keep in mind, though, that the earlier you submit your FAFSA, the better your chances are for receiving a comprehensive financial aid package in advance of the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

Currently, we anticipate being able to begin releasing comprehensive offers (including scholarship and financial aid offers) in early April for prospective students and by early May for continuing students. The earlier you submit your FAFSA, and complete and follow-up requests, the more likely you are to know your comprehensive financial aid offers by those dates. Note that these dates are subject to change depending upon the timing of when the federal processor delivers FAFSA results to institutions.

For Utah Scholarship information (both new students interested in being considered for eligibility, as well as continuing students who are recipients): Complete and submit the 2024-25 FAFSA by August 1, 2024 to ensure consideration for eligibility for the For Utah scholarship for the 2024-25 school year. Be sure to closely monitor your CIS and Umail account for follow-up requests or requirements to complete your University of Utah financial aid file before the first day of classes for the Fall 2024 semester (i.e., August 19, 2024).

Incoming freshmen merit scholarship notifications will be sent to an eligible recipient's email beginning February 1, 2024. Please refer to the full list of scholarships here.

If you are a student or parent inquiring about the status of an award, then please ensure that a FERPA pin has been set up. More information about how to complete that process can be found here. Please note that we will not be able to share information without the FERPA pin available and you must be the student or a designated person for our office to be able to share information about the status of an award.

For incoming freshmen students admitted for the Fall 2024 semester, eligible recipients of the WUE Tuition Discount were notified of their status as part of their admit notification from the Office of Admissions.  If there are questions about a WUE Tuition Discount recipient's status, then please reach out to the Office of Admissions at admissions@utah.edu or (801) 581-8761.

For Utah Scholarship information: Complete and submit the 2024-25 FAFSA by August 1, 2024 to ensure consideration of eligibility for the For Utah scholarship for the 2024-25 school year. Be sure to closely monitor your CIS and Umail account for follow-up requests or requirements to complete your University of Utah financial aid file before the first day of classes for the Fall 2024 semester (i.e., August 19, 2024).

*Eligible For Utah finalists should begin receiving notifications April 15, 2024; notifications will be on a rolling basis as we receive FAFSA results. We anticipate all notifications will be finalized and sent by the first day of classes for the Fall 2024 semester (i.e., August 19, 2024).

Following a multi-year pause on repayments, student loan interest resumed accrual beginning September 1, 2023 and payments began starting in October 2023.

Although the one-time student debt relief plan was blocked by the Supreme Court in June 2023, there are other student loan forgiveness and cancellation options.

The University of Utah has ended its Income Share Agreement (ISA) program and no further ISA contracts are being issued. All existing ISA contract holders have been sent communications regarding this status as of June 1, 2023.  Please see the public announcement that the program has ended. If you are a former ISA recipient at the U and have questions, or if you need information on additional financial aid options, please contact the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
